Who inspects and what the results mean

Inspections are carried out by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). New York City scores each inspection by adding points for each violation found, so lower scores are better. A score of 0–13 earns an A, 14–27 a B, and 28 or more a C. Restaurants that do not earn an A on an initial inspection are re-inspected before a grade is final, and codes N, Z and P mark grades that are not yet final.
